Claudia Winkleman: the new Film 2010 presenter.

During my daily read I came across this news…http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2010/mar/29/claudia-winkleman-film-2010

Yes, thats right Claudia Winkleman is going to head film 2010. I have to say I’m not too impressed as she does not come across as a  film buff, as Ross previously had, which of course helps. But then again I don’t know her at all, so who am I to judge…although I am judging come the new series. That said I would love to be impressed as there are not enough female critics out there in the mainstream media.

The favourite to take the position, Mark Kermode turned down the post on the grounds that  the role “requires a mainstream sensibility”, which I have to say is a massive cop out. If he actually wanted to askew the mainstream viewpoint then he would have taken the role to raise awareness of more independently minded features…either that or he believes he is more ‘cultured’ and therefore above the films that are covered in the show, most of them may be shit Kermode, but come on, get off your high horse.

Urrrgh. I read this today and immediately thought that it was an awful idea. Although like you say, having a female critic on television would be a good thing, I really cannot stand Claudia Winkleman. What a waste of space! I cannot understand why she keeps on getting presenting gigs. She looks funny too. And does she know anything about films? Or anything we want to hear anyway! I doubt it. Poor choice BBC in my opinion.

The problem is that I can’t actually pick out anyone else thats BBC friendly or more importantly…good.
