‘Holy Water’ Trailer

What makes a  heist movie?

Firstly you need:

1) Something to steel – Viagra, check.

2) A full-proof plan and get away – erm….kinda.

3)and… a cast of good looking and cool Hollywood actors – Erm…well, there is Linda Hamilton.

But, do not fear because who needs George Clooney, Brad Pitt or Jason Statham when you have four bachelors from Killcoulin’s Leap, with no job prospects and with little appeal to women.

Holy Water may not set the film world alight but it will give you an excuse to get out on a Friday night. Oh and it’s British and Independent…If that helps

Top 5 – product placements

If you haven’t seen David Lynch’s view on product placement then please do…

…. seen it yet? Okay lets continue.

As Lynch rightly points out product placement is ‘bullshit’. Not only does it distract us from the art that is film, but it also wrongly deceives the audience. Would the ‘real’ bond (okay, a decent MI5 agent) use a Sony Erricsson? No of course he wouldn’t. He’s more likely to use something that doesn’t sport an 8gb Mp3 player as it’s key feature.

I guess thats enough blabbing on. In product placements small defense, it does raise the budget of the film so more explosions can happen, killing what little narrative there is.

5. I love you, man.

I know it’s not a biggy for product placements, but I have had it up to here *pointing to the ceiling* with fucking iPhones. ‘Wa, i’ll put you on my iPhone’. It’s a phone, it’s still a fucking phone. ‘Oh…but it has everything, I don’t need anything else, look how cool this is’. NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR FUCKING IPHONE!!!! – Ah, rant over.

Wait, I just found a worst bit. ‘Someone just sent me a ‘Quicktime’. WHO SAY’S THAT!!!! IT’s A VIDEO. Okay, rant really over.

4. Cast Away.

There is an underlying message (I say underlying, it’s pretty obvious) in Cast Away, that FedEx will deliver your mail even if that plane crashes and you are stranded on an Island on your own. For Three years.

Oh and there’s that Guy.

3. The Island.

I could have made a top 5 based on Michael Bay Films alone, Transformers, Bad Boys, you name it they’ve got every product under the sun in them. But Island really does take the biscuit. Just have a look at the video if you don’t believe me.

2. James Bond, Casino Royale

You know after I saw this film I rushed out to buy myself a new phone, a new laptop, a new camera, a new DVD player and a new TV. They were all produced by LG.

I was joking, of course I bought all Sony. I may even buy a Rolex and get the new Aston Martin DB7, I don’t even know why?

1. iRobot

The Product placement in iRobot is shameless, absolutely shameless. By the way did I mention it is shameless, completely and totally shameless… that will do.

This Month in Trailers

So what are the interesting films being released this month? Well here are a couple I have my eye on.

First off is Michael Cera finally playing a character that isn’t George Michael Bluth. Ok, he is but this one has an alter-ego. Still ‘Youth in Revolt’ looks far more enjoyable then ‘Year One’.

This month also sees the return of Studio Ghibli with their cute new tale ‘Ponyo’. Along with Pixar, Studio Ghibli seem to rise above most children’s animation by simply remembering that what is important to story is character.

Although this is not the only animation to catch my eye this month. There is a greater return to animation… yes, classic Disney. ‘The Princess and the Frog’ has a heap of pressure to return to the classic Disney formula but by getting the directors and writers behind ‘Aladdin’, ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Hercules’ is a step in the right direction.

Early critical reviews of Jackson’s ‘The Lovely Bones’ seem to point to a mediocre film. Which is saddening as the book is a beautiful look at a family coping with the horrible idea of the rape and murder of their daughter. Hopefully Jackson has kept as a big a focus on the source material as he has with the ‘LOTR’ trilogy’.

More exciting though is a new film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the crazy mind behind ‘Amelie’. This is my most-anticipated film this month and it looks damn right magical. Hopefully ‘MicMacs’ will be showing in a cinema near me and hopefully you as well.
